You may have noticed that in all of my correspondence I sign of with ...
BE PRESENT IN LIFE!
There was a period in my life where there were moments in my day where I was what I call ....
"FAKE PRESENT".FAKE PRESENT: a state of pretending to be present when really all you want to do is not be present.
These were moments and I would say on average across the multitude of interactions I would have in a week - there would be 1 or 2 times where I shifted to fake present. Some of the most challenging times were when you were attending a meeting that you already framed as being meaningless. I always felt I need a can of "redbull" filled with the thoughts and actions of the energy it took to be present in this situation.
The above did not prevent me from completing any role or task I wanted to do, it simply meant that at times I was operating on 50% effort or autopilot is another good way to describe it.
when I look back at some interactions it is so obvious to me now that I was .....
If you know me and ever felt that ... you did not get the best version of me and I have not served you to the greatest potential I have - if we meet again, look out for a HIGHLY present interaction.
I excelled and had great relationships with people - again this was my perception. If I was to ask now of my past peers how did you assess my level of presence during the irregular moments I slipped into FAKE PRESENT tey woudl give me feedback like the the above - they knew. This reflection also made me realise that on many occasions I believe people had been fake present with me.
MOVING FROM FAKE TO REAL
Fortunately about 4 years ago I became aware of this blind spot, but not in the way you might be thinking ie. someone just stepped up and told me. The realisation came after an intense period personal growth through a self leadership coaching. This woke me up to my condition of being fake present. There are still moments, but and I am so aware of the preceding events that it has not chance of impacting my interactions. This is part of the HIGH 5 For QUALITY INTERACTIONS, but you know that prevention is always best outcome and this has been achieved through my powerful affirmation -"BE PRESENT IN LIFE"- this has built an unbreakable connection in my mind.
What does "Be Present in Life" mean to me?This is life leadership approach that guides me everyday to make great choices and development meaningful productive relationships.
